Korean entertainment has increasingly captured Hollywood's attention, with a variety of K-dramas ranging from touching romances to compelling human stories. This appeal has only grown, especially with the availability of many K-dramas on platforms like Netflix. Despite some K-dramas already making the transition to Hollywood, like 'Life on Mars' and 'Suits' adapted into Korean dramas and 'The Good Doctor' transformed into a Western TV show, numerous other K-dramas are deserving of a Hollywood adaptation. Below, we highlight a few that could make for compelling hollywood remakes.
‘Hotel Del Luna’
Creating a vividly immersive universe in 'Hotel Del Luna,' the series explores the challenges faced by lost souls who find themselves in the titular establishment. Managed by the ghost of a mass murderer and her unsuspecting human assistant, the show strikes a balance between emotional depth and humour. Given the resurgence of interest in Tim Burton's work, a Gothic reimagining of 'Hotel Del Luna' could potentially resonate with audiences, providing another captivating addition to Netflix's collection of supernatural dramas.
‘Extraordinary You’
Adapted from the webtoon 'July Found by Chance,' 'Extraordinary You' unfolds as a heartwarming narrative that delves into themes of determination and life choices. Boasting a unique premise, the series has the potential to captivate American audiences. The plot centres around Eun Dan Oh (played by Kim Hye Yoon), a high school student in a prestigious academy who stumbles upon the revelation that she is merely a character in a comic book titled 'Secret.'
In this fantasy world, her friends and school exist within the pages of a comic. Dan Oh, portrayed as an extra character, finds herself engaged to someone who despises her, and to make matters worse, she is diagnosed with terminal heart disease. Frustrated with the melancholy of her life, she decides to take control and write her own story, but unforeseen consequences may follow.
‘Crash Landing On You’
The beloved k-drama of star-crossed lovers in 'Crash Landing On You' takes a risky and forbidden premise, demonstrating how love can transform it into something beautiful. This storyline would strike a chord with hopeless romantic Americans and could make for an exceptional remake. The K-drama (time travel kdramas) unfolds as a South Korean entrepreneur and heiress, Yoon Se Ri (played by Son Ye Jin), accidentally crash-lands in North Korea following a paragliding mishap. Convinced that she may never return home, she encounters Ri Jeong Hyeok (portrayed by Hyun Bin), a North Korean elite who discovers and saves her during his patrol. Despite his promise to help her return, he must keep her hidden, especially from the persistent Cho Cheol Gang (played by Oh Man Seok), who is determined to expose him.
‘Sweet Home’
Immersed in blood and fuelled by paranoia, ‘Sweet Home’ presents a gripping apocalyptic drama featuring zombies and monsters. Song Kang, known for ‘Love Alarm,’ takes on the role of an emotionally troubled high-schooler facing not only a family tragedy but also the impending invasion of monsters.

Trapped in a high-rise residential building, he and a group of survivors must navigate their way through the challenges of survival. While the premise may not be the most original, given the abundance of zombie dramas in the American market post, ‘The Walking Dead,’ ‘Sweet Home’ stands out with its creative violence, chilling creature designs, and a protagonist whose emotional journey adds depth. These elements open up exciting possibilities for a compelling American remake.
