To recap, the second season of Bridgerton concluded with the revelation of Lady Whistledown's true identity as Penelope, and we saw a falling out between the two best friends, Penelope Featherington and Eloise Bridgerton. Although the audience was always aware of the potential chemistry between Penelope and Colin, we witness it tragically end in the season two finale when Colin tells his friends he would "never court a girl like her." But that’s not the end at all, because in Bridgerton's season 3, their friendship blooms into a steamy affair.

Bridgerton season three starts with Colin returning from his travels abroad and Penelope’s search for a husband. The story continues with Colin teaching Penelope how to find a husband. But the courtship lessons soon turn into love as a steamy first kiss sparks feelings in Colin’s heart. The rest of the episodes are a saga of love, jealousy and drama. With unexpected friendships, new characters, and twists, Part 1 comes to a shocking end with Colin asking Penelope to marry him. Unfortunately, the episode ends on a cliffhanger before we get to hear Penelope's response, leaving the audience on edge. The showrunner, Jess Brownell, disclosed to media outlets that the next episodes will be "much more tense."
