COVID Scare: RTPCR Test Mandatory For Incoming Travellers From China & 5 Countries

Caught amidst the scare of the new COVID-19 wave, the Ministry of Health has issued a statement clearly mentioning that any passengers travelling to India from South and South-East Asian countries including China, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Singapore, and Thailand needed to take the RTPCR test starting 1st January 2023. The aforementioned test needs to be taken a maximum of 72 hours before travelling inward to the country.

Union Health Minister, Dr. Mansukh Mandviya took to Twitter earlier in the afternoon today and said, “RT-PCR test has been made mandatory for flyers coming from China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Thailand from 1st January 2023. They will have to upload their reports on the Air Suvidha portal before travel.”

Amidst this new spike in Coronavirus cases, the government has sounded the alert, tightened COVID guidelines, and asked states and Union territories to prepare for any eventuality. India has recorded a rise in the number of cases and the daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.11 percent while the weekly positivity was pegged at 0.17 per cent, the ministry said.

With the new surge of news going viral related to the anticipated fourth wave of COVID-19, the Health Ministry of the Government of Karnataka has made wearing masks mandatory in the state public places such as in schools, colleges, movie theatres, pubs, restaurants, and bars. The New Year’s Eve celebrations will also only be allowed only until 1 AM in the state. The Karnataka Health Family Welfare Minister, K Sudhakar, Karnataka, said, “Although there is no need to panic, precautionary measures have to be taken. We advise citizens to wear masks and take booster shots. Masks should also be mandatory worn in closed spaces.”

Indian giant pharmaceutical company Bharat Biotech International Limited has also revised the prices of its COVID-19 intranasal vaccine iNCOVACC. In an announcement made on Tuesday, the company mentioned that it will now be available on the CoWIN portal and is priced at ₹800 (excluding GST) for private markets and ₹325 (excluding GST) for government supplies.
