Getting an appointment, collecting all the documents signed, lining up at the passport office, is the long application process stopping you from getting a passport? Not anymore! There is good news for you! The new set of rules for Indian passport have made the entire application process simple for us. This has made it all easier for us and you can just gear up for travel! Read along to know more about these changes:

You Can Apply It From Anywhere

getting passport is now easy

With the new rule sheet, you can apply for a passport from anywhere in India, irrespective of the place where you are staying. Say for instance, if you are living in Bangalore temporarily but actually residing in Delhi then you can apply for your passport at a Passport Seva Kendra under the Regional Passport Office in Bangalore too. It’s got that simple! Also, you can now apply for a passport through an app. You can apply and even schedule for your passport appointment through the Passport Seva App (available on iOS and Android).

Child Of A Single Parent? Don’t Worry!

Now the passport application form will only require the applicant to provide the name of only one parent or legal guardian. So if you are a single parent to your child then you will no longer have any problem in giving just your name for the child’s passport which otherwise demanded the names of both mother and father.

Less Number Of Annexes

Earlier 15 annexes were mandatory and getting these all signed from the officer was a big task! But now the total number of Annexes has been brought down to 9. A lot of them have also been merged. Don't Miss Budget Friendly International Holiday Destinations For Indians

Easier For Adopted And Orphaned Children

Orphaned children without proof of their date birth can get a declaration from their orphanage and submit it with their application form. Also, it is no longer mandatory for adopted children to submit an adoption deed. They can give a declaration of their adoption on their own.

Simpler For Couples And Divorcees Too

We can really imagine the pain of standing in a long queue to finally get a stamp on our marriage certificates. Well, worry no more! If you are married, you no longer need to provide a marriage certificate. Couples who are separated or divorced also do not need to provide divorce certificate or names of their spouses.

No More NOCs

There was a time when Government officials had to obtain the Identity Certificate (Annexure B)/No Objection Certificate (Annexure M) from their concerned employer. Not anymore, if you are a government official and want to get your passport on an urgent basis then you can give a self-declaration in Annexure N where you can state that you have informed your employer.

Children and Senior Citizens Get It First

Children and senior citizens are on priority and don’t need to stand in a queue to apply for a passport.

Also, the last page of the passport will no longer have the residential information. The Ministry Of External Affairs is eliminating the last page of the passport. The residential information will no longer be printed on the passport. However, it will remain the same for the existing passports till the expiry date.
