If you love travelling and are a vegetarian too, you must be knowing all the struggles! Travelling all across the globe and still maintaining a vegetarian diet is a big challenge. Not all destinations around the world serve vegetarian food. If you don’t eat non-vegetarian food and you get to see meat and fish every restaurant you jump into, we can completely imagine that face! You may not be always lucky to find a vegetarian-friendly destination and this is when it becomes a really big deal. But well, to maintain a healthy vegetarian diet you don’t need to put an end to your travelling. I am a vegetarian who doesn’t even consume eggs and I love travelling too. Here is how I survive while travelling, especially out of India, to places where you don’t get vegetarian food easily.

Book Meals Wherever Possible

book your meal

It is when you travel internationally that you have to face the vegetarian food problem. While you book your ticket, pick your food online. International flights serve you food and while you book it, you get an option to pick your meal. Jain meal, vegetarian Hindu meal, vegetarian continental meal, and even a vegan meal, it is all on the list. While you are on your way to the destination, you will not have to starve yourself. This in-flight food won’t cost you extra as it comes complimentary with your ticket. The best part is that when you book your food prior, you will get it before all the other passengers on the plane. What better? Eat quickly and you can go off to sleep!

Keep Your Snacks Handy

When you are hungry between the meals and you don’t wish to even try that packet of chips, probably prepared using pork oil at the shopping mart, you can rely on your packet of chips from India. Carry your favourite snacks with you while you travel. Try carrying small packages of the snacks so that you can keep them in your handbag. Candies, dry fruits, rice flakes, you can carry it all with you.

Learn To Say “I am a vegetarian”

Language is a challenge when you are travelling to another country. To save yourself from all the mess, learn some local language. Learn in a way that you can atleast talk about your meals. Most importantly, learn to say, “I’m vegetarian” or “I don’t eat meat”. Getting to know about it, locals there would surely help you get vegetarian food.

Go For Fruits And Vegetables

fruits veggies travel food hacks

Anywhere around the world, you get vegetarian fruits and vegetables, no questions about it! Enjoy the fruits available with the local vendor. Fruits are healthy and delicious too! Just make sure you wash them before consuming them. You can pick vegetables too but pick the ones that can be eaten raw or if you have a kitchen to prepare them. Pick a packet of bread and you can just add some veggies and butter. Your instant vegetarian sandwich is ready!

Always do your homework before heading to a place. Check if the place has any vegetarian food options so that you can eat out at times if you are travelling for long.
