Now here is some great news for air passengers. Thanks to Air India that has announced this good news. If you travel by the carrier very often then let us tell you that Air India will not be charging any cancellation fees from the travellers. Some time back, Indian aviation regulator DGCA had issued 'passenger charter' that included rights for air travellers. Following it, Air India announced its decision of waving off cancellation charges effect from May 1. But there are some rules too. Read on.
No cancellation charges will be taken from the passenger only if the passenger cancels it within 24 hours of booking. Also, the facility is only avaialble if the flight is scheduled at least 7 days after the booking date.
Circular Issued By Air India
A circular issued by Air India's Chairman and Managing Director said, "It has been decided that for sale and travel, effective May 1, 2019, all domestic tickets will have the free look-in option for change and cancellation as prescribed by the DGCA. The passenger has an option of canceling or amending the ticket without any additional charges, that is cancellation or change fee is not applicable when the same is done within 24 hours of ticketing. The circular also states that this facility will not be available for those whose flight is scheduled for less than 7 days from the booking date. Other Provisions In The 'Passenger Charter'
- The charter gives an option of "alternate flight" or refund of the full ticket price if a domestic flight is expected to be delayed by more than six hours.
- The passenger will get an alternate flight or complete refund if told abou the flight cancellation two weeks before departure.
- If the flight is overbooked and passenger is denied boarding then the passenger would not be liable to hold airline for compensation if he or she is given an alternate flight within one hour of original flight's departure.
Lately, Air India waived off all charges for cancellation and rescheduling of tickets to and from Colombo after the terror attacks in Sri Lanka. The tweet said, "In view of the situation in #Srilanka #AirIndia has waived all charges for rescheduling/ cancellation of bookings on its flts (flights) to/ from Colombo for travel till April 24, 2019."
