Xiaomi has officially expanded its 2026 flagship lineup with the launch of its latest devices, Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra. Although both devices boast ultra-powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipsets, they are meant to thrive in very different worlds: one is a professional-grade camera powerhouse, while the other is a compact powerhouse of efficiency.

The primary trade-off between these two devices is size versus specialised hardware.

The camera systems, which are both co-engineered with Leica, are also the biggest differentiators between the two.

• Xiaomi 17 Ultra: Boasts a world-first 200MP periscope telephoto lens with a mechanical continuous optical zoom ranging from 75mm to 100mm (3.2x to 4.3x). The camera also features a massive 50MP sensor measuring 1-inch LOFIC, which is intended for preventing overexposure in high-contrast lighting conditions such as sunsets.

• Xiaomi 17: Features a more conventional but still highly capable triple 50MP camera system. It features a 1/1.31" Light Fusion 950 sensor and a 60mm floating telephoto lens, which is excellent for portraits but still lacks the telephoto zoom capability of the Ultra.

• Selfies: The camera on both devices has been improved to a 50MP front camera with autofocus, which is a significant upgrade from the previous 32MP versions.

Xiaomi 17 Ultra vs Xiaomi 17 Price and Availability

Following the launch in India on March 11, 2026, both devices will be available for purchase under an Early Bird offer from March 13.

• Price of Xiaomi 17: Starts at ₹89,999 for the 12GB/256GB variant.

• Price of Xiaomi 17 Ultra: Starts at an effective price of ₹1,29,999.

• Launch Offers: Consumers who purchase between March 13 and March 17 will receive a free upgrade to 512GB at the price of 256GB. Consumers of the Ultra variant will also receive a free Photography Kit Pro worth ₹19,999.

• Sale Date: Open sales for both devices will start on March 18, 2026.
