World Oceans Day: Theme
Almost seventy per cent of the earth's surface is covered by oceans which are vital for the human race’s survival and existence. Approximately, around fifty per cent of the world’s oxygen is produced by the oceans. Additionally, they provided home to most species too. Therefore, they are believed to be a major factor in a healthy balance of biodiversity and human sustainability.
However, human activities and other factors have created pollution and degradation in the oceans over time. Hence, it has become crucial to create awareness about such issues and their impacts on the oceans. World Oceans Day is observed every year on June 8, and this year, it will be celebrated on the second Saturday of June. It is celebrated around the world with the aim of spreading awareness on the same and encouraging people to take measures to restore the health of the oceans of the world.
This year, the theme for World Oceans Day is ‘Awaken New Depths’ while the action theme of this year is ‘Catalysing action for our ocean and climate.’
