Hindi is the fourth largest language that is spoken in the world. It was never in existence in ancient times, however, it gained value sometime around the 12th century. Many Hindi poets have taken this language to heights by penning down the emotions of their hearts.
Poetry is the language of the heart. It is all about expressing the magnificent emotions inside your soul in only a few words. On the occasion of World Hindi Day, let us remember these Hindi poets whose works are beyond admirable.
Ramdhari Singh Dinkar
Ramdhari Singh Dinkar was known for raising the spirits of nationalists. His strong poems on patriotism gave him the title of ‘Rashtrakavi’ (National poet). Some of his strong poems that have inspired many include ‘Dilli’, ‘Himalaya’, ‘Aag Ki Bheekh’, ‘Jawani Ka Jhand’, and ‘Vasant Ke Naam Par’.
Mahadevi Verma
One of the very few female Hindi poets to exist in that era, Mahadevi Verma’s works reflected the power within her to uplift women. She was a feminist (Tips To Raise Your Kids As Feminists) writer who penned down inspirational verses to get women inspired and empowered. Some of her poems with which she has shaken the usual societal thinking are ‘Main Neer Bhari’, ‘Is Path Se Aana’, ‘Jhilmilati Raat’, and ‘ChirSajag Aankhein’.
Harivansh Rai Bachchan
Father of Amitabh Bachchan, Harivansh Rai Bachchan was one of the biggest poets of his time. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan for his contribution to Hindi literature. He has also been awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award. Some of his famous poems are ‘Jo Beet Gayi’, ‘Agnipath’, ‘Chal Mardane’, and ‘Aatmaparichay’.

Suryakant Tripathi ‘Nirala’
Suryakant Tripathi ‘Nirala’ was one of the most versatile poets in Hindi literature. He was also a novelist, story writer and essayist. Some of his poems that got very popular include ‘Chumban’, ‘Ram Ki Shakti Puja’, ‘Saroj Smriti’, ‘Sach Hai’, and ‘Raja Ne Apni Rakhwali Ki’. his poetry portrays the reality of society.
Sahir Ludhianvi
Sahir Ludhianvi was famous for his poetries that were turned into music. He was a famous Bollywood lyricist of his time. He is also famous for being associated with Amrita Pritam, a Punjabi poetess. Some of his famous works include ‘Jaane Woh Kaise’, ‘Tum Agar Saath dene Ka’, and ‘Yeh Dil Tum Bin’.
