Women’s Day is almost here and the celebration of womanhood is underway with attractive sales. This year is even more special as web streaming platforms have also joined in the bandwagon by launching special shows to celebrate the power of women. Also, movies that are all about women are being specially screened across such web platforms this week. Add these shows and movies to your watchlist to celebrate the week and feel empowered with the compelling stories that are by women, for women, and of the women.
The Sholay Girl (ZEE5)
This is a show about the first-ever stuntwoman of Bollywood, Reshma Pathan, who was the body double for Hema Malini. The web film The Sholay Girl will premier on ZEE5 on Women’s Day i.e. 8th March and features Bidita Bag in the lead. Bidita had to take martial arts training for the action-packed role and the trailer of the film also shows glimpses from the childhood and family background of Reshma. Made by Aditya Sarpotdar, the biopic about Reshma will show her adventures as a stunt double for Hema Malini, Sridevi, Meenakshi Seshadri, and Dimple Kapadia. Although we had Fearless Nadia performing many daring stunts in movies, Reshma did her daring scenes away from the limelight. The Sholay Girl hopes to change that.
Made In Heaven (Amazon Prime Video)
Made In Heaven is a series about two wedding planners Tara & Karan and their struggles in the wedding business. Set to premiere on 8th March, the series has stalwart directors such as Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti, Nitya Mehra (Baar Baar Dekho), Prashant Nair (Umrika) and Alankrita Shrivastava (Lipstick Under My Burkha) helming the various episodes. The show stars Arjun Mathur, Sobhita Dhulipala and Jim Sarbh in important roles.

Juanita (Netflix)
What better way to spend the Women’s Day than watching a show that’s all about a woman becoming more independent and more confident about herself? Starring ‘serious actor’ Alfre Woodard (12 Years A Slave, Desperate Housewives, Extremities) in a funny role, the film is about a nurse who is fed up with her life which includes supporting her grown-up kids. She sets out to have an adventure, finds romance and finds herself in the process too. This is a story of every woman who wants to fulfill her desires and finds herself underappreciated at every turn. The film will also premiere on Women’s Day.
The Test Case (ALTBalaji)
This 2017 show was a breath of fresh air and starred Nimrat Kaur as the first woman test case training to be in a combat role in the Indian Army. Nimrat is very convincing in the role of Captain Shikha Sharma who has to fight every bias even though she is an intelligent woman capable for the position. Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor and Vinay Waikul, the series is the perfect watch for Women’s Day so if you didn’t get the chance to watch it earlier, do it right away.
