Talk about women safety and it is our capital that keeps getting a wake up call each year for being one of the most unsafe places. Well, this is the reputation that Delhi has earned through the years. The major rise in the number of crimes against women in the city speaks about the safety out loud. Now there is something strange in the air of Delhi. Every time I book a cab, I go into a different mode, get super alert, till the time I reach my destination. I start to panic if I have to stay back in the office for work till late.

Even during daylight hours, you never know when you start getting stalked, groped. With things only getting worse each year, we only feel wish that someday our hope to have a safer Delhi for women will come true. With elections around the corner, women voters want crimes against women to be given priority by all the political parties. We had a word with some women and this is what they feel about women safety in Delhi and what they are expecting from political parties this year.

"Women safety is always a concern in metropolitans cities, especially in Delhi. In 2012, after Nirbhaya Case, Government launched so many apps, safety measures to control the assault cases but it hardly works. So, this time I hope the Government will take some steps to resolve these cases and make sure the safety apps are working."

Daksha, 23, IAS aspirant

"If Delhi is not safe for living then how will the country run..??? As we know Parliament is in Delhi, Judiciary is in Delhi and executive organ is in Delhi. When all the three Organs of the Government are in Delhi then it is really important for us to make Delhi a better and safe place for living..!!!"

Medha, 22, Wedding Blogger

"Safety is still an issue for women in Delhi. It still feels unsafe to travel in public transport at night. Women guards must be allocated after dusk hours, to ensure safety."

Divya, 20, Blogger

"I think it's not safe at all ...and the condition is getting worse day by day.... I think cameras should be installed everywhere..awareness of treating everyone equally should be spread all across."

Kishori, 22, Arts Student

"Men suddenly feel more free and fearless when it comes to eve teasing us. It's like they don't seem to care about the police. This was not there before 2014!"

Women safety is always a big part of the election manifestos but only if the promises by the parties made to women were fulfilled. With elections this year, let's not lose hope. To making the country, a safer place for women!
