Jawaharlal Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, in Allahabad (now Prayagraj). He was educated at some of the world’s most prestigious institutions, including Harrow School in London, and later, the University of Cambridge. According to PM India gov.in, the portal states that “In 1912, he attended the Bankipore Congress as a delegate, and became Secretary of the Home Rule League, Allahabad in 1919. In 1916 he had his first meeting with Mahatma Gandhi and felt immensely inspired by him. He organised the first Kisan March in the Pratapgarh District of Uttar Pradesh in 1920. He was twice imprisoned in connection with the Non-Cooperation Movement of 1920-22.”

Under the guidance of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru became a prominent figure in the fight for independence, advocating for non-violence, secularism, and democratic ideals. In 1947, when India gained independence, Jawaharlal Nehru became the country's first Prime Minister. His leadership during the early years of independence was marked by efforts to establish democratic institutions, maintain unity in a diverse nation, and lay the groundwork for economic development.
