Ugadi derives from the Sanskrit words Yuga and Adi, that symbolises 'start of a new age'. The Telugu and Kannada Hindus celebrated this festival to honour Lord Brahma, who started to create the universe on this day. Falling on the first day of Chaitra, this welcomes the spring harvest and triumph of good over evil.

The auspicious day of Ugadi 2026 traditionally starts with an early morning oil bath and wearing new clothes to welcome the Telugu New Year. Families clean their homes and make muggulu (rangoli) on their entrances and hang mango leaf torans to invite positivity, good health and prosperity.
At temples, devotees hear astrological predictions for the coming year as Panchanga Sravanam. Additionally, many entrepreneurs start their new businesses on this day.-1773726628604.jpg)
