What was previously known as a simple doodle of toothy monster figurine is now getting sold for 1.08 million Yuan ($150,275.51) which is valued at more than ₹1.2 crore by a Beijing auction house. According to Reuters report, this blind box toy is in for a new record as its crave turns into collectibles.

What Are Labubu Dolls?

Originating from the 2015 book series character 'The Monsters’ by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung, the Labubu dolls are plush toys and figurines that are inspired by Nordic fairy tales, which soon became a pop sensation. The sketch of a tiny elf creature brought to life as a doll is made popular by Chinese toy maker Pop Mart International.

Labubu and other "The Monsters" merchandise from Pop Mart are a hype right now, selling out instantly online. This huge demand has led to a flood of fake versions popping up in stores and online. Fans are so eager that they're lining up outside malls overnight, and there have even been reports of fights over limited stock. All this chaos has just made Labubu even more viral and sought-after!

Labubu Dolls Sold For $150,000 At Beijing Auction

Yongle International Auction, known for selling modern art and jewelry, hosted a special auction focused on Labubu. The highlight of the show was a giant mint-green Labubu statue over 4 feet tall, which sold for a whopping 1.08 million yuan after a bidding war. Another popular item was a set of three smaller Labubu figures, called "Three Wise Labubu," which sold for 510,000 yuan.

Labubu was already popular, but things took off on a high note when K-pop star Lisa from Blackpink was spotted with one and shared her love for it. Since then, other famous folks like soccer star David Beckham have jumped on the Labubu bandwagon too.
