Actor Abhishek Bacchan said that the film industry for a long time has been “obsessed” with box office numbers, but the OTT space has been able to put a spotlight on content. The 46-year-old star, who entered the digital space with the psychological thriller series, Breathe: Into the Shadows, said the influx of streaming platforms in the country has given an opportunity to Indian stories to shine on the global stage.

OTT platforms ensure accessibility

At the India Today conclave, Bachchan said that when OTT platforms came into being, everything was accessible to anybody at the push of a button. “We have a larger audience now and better reach. You can watch shows in every language– be it Indian or foreign,” he added.

He further noted that there is a huge appetite for Indian storytelling. “Good content will always work no matter the medium. Fortunately, digital platforms do not put out numbers,” he said.

Adding that these platforms keep the focus on content, he highlighted that we have become far too obsessed about collections and money as opposed to content.

‘Thriller is a difficult genre’: Abhishek Bachchan on “Breathe: Into the Shadows”

The actor was joined by his co-stars of Breathe: Into the Shadows season two, Amit Sadh, Naveen Kasturia, Saiyami Kher and director Mayank Sharma.

Bachchan said that it’s one of the toughest tasks to create an engaging thriller. “It’s a very difficult genre to execute because thrillers are a rarity.”

He added that for him, it was the character that drew him to the project. “I loved Mayank’s writing. That is integral to a good thriller. It was not superficial at all. If you are not emotionally invested, it goes to waste. Mayank has done a great job,” he said.

The producers of the series are Vikram Malhotra and Abundantia Entertainment. It will premiere on Prime Video on November 9. Sharma has co-written the new season with Vikram Tuli, Priya Saggi, Arshad Syed and Abhijeet Deshpande.
