There was a major technical glitch in the UPI platforms across India and as per Downdetector, more than 3000 users complained about the downtime. UPI Disruption In India
Were you unable to make UPI payments yesterday? You were not the only one. Many people across the country faced the same problem. Unified Payment Interface services were disrupted on Wednesday evening, refraining hundreds of people from making financial transactions using mobile applications. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which manages UPI operations, admitted the technical glitch and assured users that it had been resolved. Though the outage was for a short period, it annoyed users who are entirely dependent on digital transactions.
UPI Outage
On March 27, 2025, Wednesday evening several UPI users across India faced issues while making digital transactions. UPI mobile applications including Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm were impacted due to this issue. According to Downdetector graphs, the problems started late afternoon, however, it peaked when complaints began to spike at around 7 pm. Several users took to social media X (formerly known as Twitter) to share their complaints.
A user named Anas Khan wrote, “For the first time in my life I've experienced UPI downtime.

Yashwant Sai commented, “UPI is down for the first time & it is already showing an impact. Most of us already stopped carrying liquid cash & this downtime has created a do-or-die situation. The elders were right about carrying cash.”

Services Restored
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) confirmed that the payments were disrupted due to some intermittent technical glitch. However, the issue has now been fixed. NPCI took to X to share the details. The post read, “NPCI had faced intermittent technical issues owing to which UPI had a partial decline. The same has been addressed now and the system has stabilised. Regret the inconvenience.”
