Not My Granddaughter, Clarifies Union Minister Jitan Majhi About Bihar Woman Shot Dead By Husband

A shocking incident in Bihar has left many devastated as a woman named Sushma Devi gets killed by her husband in the Gaya district of Bihar. Earlier, the reports suggested that the woman was Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's granddaughter, however, the minister later clarified that the woman was not related to him, in a post on X. Woman Shot Dead Not My Granddaughter, Clarifies Union Minister

Sushma Devi, earlier rumoured to be the granddaughter of Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi, was allegedly shot dead by her husband, Ramesh Singh, in Gaya district, Bihar. The fatal shooting took place on Wednesday at their home in Tetua village, located under the Atri block, as per reports. Jitan Ram Manjhi later shared a post on X, saying that the woman is not his granddaughter and expressed his grief. “वैसे तो मुसहर-भुईंयाँ-मांझी समाज से आने वाला हर सदस्य मेरे परिवार का सदस्य हैं। पर आज जिस महिला की हत्या हुई है वह मेरी नातिन नहीं थी। कृप्या अफ़वाहों से बचें।” read the post which loosely translates to, “Although every member of Musahar-Bhuiyan-Manjhi community is a member of my family. But the woman who was murdered today was not my granddaughter. Please avoid rumours.”

However, this reflects on the crimes against women in the country. According to the victim's sister, Poonam Kumari, a heated argument broke out between the couple after Ramesh returned home from Patna around noon. The verbal fight escalated and Ramesh allegedly took out a country-made pistol and fired at Sushma, before fleeing the scene.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, with a special team formed to track down the accused. Gaya Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anand Kumar stated that a forensic team and technical experts have been sent to the crime scene to collect evidence. Meanwhile, the body has been sent to Magadh Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
