Amrin Khalil, with her words, seems to convey how brown daughters are no less than a son being born into a family. In past Indian society, it was considered a burden to birth a daughter into your family. It went on to become a mistake for the mother as the infant could be killed within her first week of being born in many parts of the country.

Even in today’s society, there still persist many families that consider a son to be a sole heir than a daughter or daughter. While these families may be limited, there is a good amount of families that give an equal position to both, son and daughter.

Skin colour has also been an issue in the nation of India. There has always been a need to brighten the colour of your skin. Somehow, your beauty is also measured by the shade of your skin. This has also been drastically changing but still has a long way to go as we still see people preferring skin brightening creams over a moisturizer for their skin type.

In Indian society, it is considered rude to say ‘no’ to your elders and loved ones while they may ask you absolutely anything to do. Amrin Khalil urges you to not give in every time because it is how society wants it. If you think you can’t or don’t want to, just say politely and let it slip.
