Anne Jakapong Jakrajutatip, a transgender rights advocate and businesswoman from Thailand, has purchased the Miss Universe Organization for $20 million, according to her company's announcement on Wednesday. She is the founder and CEO of the media business JKN Global Groups, which has its headquarters in Thailand and purchased the pageant's rights from IMG Worldwide, a sports and event organisation with its main office in New York City.

She also has 6.8 million followers on social media. She is a well-known reality television star who has participated in Thai versions of Project Runway and Shark Tank. She is also an outspoken supporter of trans rights and established a foundation to advocate for the needs of the Thai trans community. She also contributed to the foundation of the organisation Life Inspired for Transsexual Foundation.

She became the first woman to own the 71-year-old pageants (In A Historic Move, Miss Universe Pageant To Allow Married Women & Moms To Participate) on Wednesday, making them one of the oldest continuously broadcast competitions in the world. They are broadcasted in 165 nations and seen by more than half a billion people every year.

The businesswoman also shared a post on her Instagram to share the news about the acquisition with the caption “Bring yourself into the positive Harmony of the UNIVERSE and allow the 100% good energy into your life from now on”.

“We are incredibly honoured to be acquiring the Miss Universe Organisation and working with its visionary leadership team,” Jakrajutatip said in a statement. She also described the purchase as “a strong, strategic addition to our portfolio.” The Miss Universe brand will be used to promote JKN's consumer products, which are involved in content distribution, beverages, food supplements, beauty, and consumer goods.
