Rishi Sunak, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer of the UK, was elected as the top leader of the UK’s Conservative Party, giving way for him to become the country's first Indian-origin Prime Minister.

He replaced Liz Truss, who stepped down as PM on October 20 after receiving backlash for her policies which immediately triggered an economic meltdown in the country.

Sunak will be Britain’s first leader of colour to take the top job at the young age of 42, making him the youngest UK PM in more than 200 years. As per this year’s Sunday Times Rich List, the UK PM-designate and his wife, Akshata Murty, have a mammoth net worth of £730 Million. They were ranked 222 on the UK’s wealthiest 250 people list.

Sunak’s wife, Akshata, a British-based Indian businesswoman and the daughter of N.R. Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys, is wealthier than Queen Elizabeth II, with assets worth as much as £430 million, as per media reports.

According to reports, the couple has real estate worth £15 million, with four homes spread over the UK and the US—two in London, one in Yorkshire and one in LA.

Their five-bedroom house in Kensington is worth £7 million alone. It has four storeys and a private garden. Their other home is in London’s Old Brompton Road, where their extended family likes to stay when they are visiting.

While in Yorkshire, the power couple owns a Grade-II Georgian mansion in a 12 acres land area with an ornamental lake. Their penthouse in California is set on the beach where Baywatch was shot.

According to the Guardian, their finances came under question when the Labour party asked Sunak to be more transparent about his loans to fund his businesses. He was forced to explain how he managed his family’s immense fortune.

Rishi Sunak’s Salary and Business Wealth

Previously as Chancellor, Rishi Sunak’s salary was £151,649, and as UK PM, he will be earning much more, according to a report by the Mint.

Before becoming a politician, Sunak was a partner at two increasingly profitable hedge funds from 2001 to 2004. He was also an analyst for Goldman Sachs, an investment bank.

According to the Times, Sunak was already a multi-millionaire in his mid-twenties. However, it is alleged that most of his wealth comes from his marriage to Akshata Murty, who has a stake worth 0.93% in her parent’s company Infosys, an IT giant.
