Tailor’s Daughter Became First Female Judge
The daughter of a tailor, Bhawana Kesar became the first woman from Nowshera, Rajouri district to pass the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Service (Judicial) examination. Expressing her happiness Bhawana said, “It is a matter of happiness for my parents that their daughter has come so far. I hope to be an inspiration for others, going forward.”
Hails From Humble Background
Bhawana hails from a humble middle-class background where her father runs a small tailoring shop and her mother is a housewife. After completing her schooling, Bhawana completed her BA LLB from Punjab University. Further, she did LLM and pursued her PhD.
Never Give Up On Your Dreams
Bhawana worked hard for her dreams. However, Bhawana gives credit to her family for being her strength throughout her journey.
She even gave an empowering message to all the women (government initiatives for women) that goes like, “My message to all the girls out there is to pursue your education and never give up on their dreams, no matter what. They should not fear what's happening around them and bravely face and overcome all situations that they find themselves in. Everything is easy if one can set one's mind to a task. Just do it!” she said. “I wish for more judges from my native district. If you want to accomplish something, you can do it against all odds,” she added.

Women's Empowerment In Jammu And Kashmir
Jammu and Kashmir's judicial examination has seen several women (women's day quotes) making their marks. Other than Bhawana, Tasneem Kausa from Srinagar topped the examination. Among the top qualified candidates, the first 10 positions are taken up by girls.
