Women all around the world face inconvenience during their menstrual cycle, and it is not only restricted to painful cramps. Period products often lead to rashes, infections, and other ailments women have to push through because either they do not have access to better options or they are unaware of such products.

Sujata Pawar, Founder of AVNI, also went through a similar experience. For the initial years, she used traditional cloth and cotton pads. However, as she grew up, went to study in college and travelled across India, she had to use commercial pads available in the market.

While popular brands claim to sell soft pads, many of their products have a plastic layer, which makes menstruators suffer from rashes, redness, irritation, itching, and infection in certain cases. Pawar was among those menstruators, and when she had a word with her friends and relatives, she came to know that it was the case with everyone.

Therefore, instead of searching for new options, she decided to create a brand that sells non-toxic period products. Hence AVNI was born. AVNI has a variety of cotton pads, panty liners, intimate wipes, menstrual cups, liquid detergent for period wear, and more for menstruators to experience a hassle-free cycle.

Sustainable Menstrual Products

As a girl, Pawar liked how a cloth pad felt against her skin. However, those were not travel-friendly. Therefore, in April 2021, she introduced the world to cloth pads that women can use throughout the day and while travelling. They have upgraded versions of the traditional ones.

The businesswoman has earlier worked with many healthcare brands across India like Sanofi, Publicare India, and Superbottoms. She amalgamated her knowledge with the latest technology to provide menstruators with products that no longer cause rashes and infections.

Pawar started her journey to resolve health issues that menstruators were facing while using commercial pads. She made it her aim to design soft and durable products. However, later these turn out to be sustainable and eco-friendly options as well.

When she started out, people were not too aware of menstrual cups, and even today, not everyone has access to clean toilets or water, making it difficult for them to use a cup. Hence, AVNI came up with cloth pads and disposable cotton pads.

Pawar says, “AVNI is not just selling cloth or cotton pads but about menstruators having a good experience through their period cycles.”

Self-Disinfecting Layer In Cloth Pads

Traditional cloth pads were just cotton wrapped in a piece of a soft cloth. It was not leak-proof, and frequent staining was an issue. They also imposed the risks of infections.

However, AVNI’s cloth pads are developed using anti-microbial technology, making the fabric self-disinfecting. The cloth is crafted in a way that it does not retain stain. Menstruators can wash them after use. The leak-proof layer at the bottom makes them suitable for everyday use.

Pawar says AVNI’s cotton disposable pads do not come with a top layer made of plastic like other brands. It is made of cotton, and each napkin comes wrapped in a disposable bag to make it easy to dispose off a used one. It also makes it less hazardous for sanitary workers.

The company also provides pads in a variety of sizes. Therefore, menstruators can pick and customise a pack according to their requirements.

Helpline Number & Experts For Chat

Initially, AVNI launched a helpline number and called it Period Helpline. Women can still reach out to them, share their queries and even talk to experts about their issues.

Pawar said they were able to reach many women through the helpline number. Since menstruation is taboo in our society, not many were willing to open up about the issue. But a chat on WhatsApp or a call helped a lot of women overcome painful periods and seek the help they need.

Where society expects menstruators to sail through the painful days without complaining, Sujata Pawar has built a brand that is all about comfort during periods.
