Ten years ago nobody was aware that a Punjabi Munda from Delhi could make it big in Bollywood. But here we are counting our blessings to see Sidharth Malhotra, a self-made actor, making it big on the silver screen, giving other aspiring actors hope that they too can achieve their tinseltown dreams.
Malhotra debuted alongside Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan in Student Of The Year, the 2012 film directed by Karan Johar, who had developed a reputation back then for only casting established stars or their kids in his films. SOTY became one of the highest grossing films of 2012 and Malhotra won our hearts playing the role of Abhimanyu Singh, a competitive outsider in an elite boarding school competing for the title of ‘Student Of The Year’. Ten years later, he is still going strong and his upcoming film, the much-awaited Mission Majnu, is creating a lot of social media buzz.
Biggest Hits
Malhotra’s most recent hit Shershaah won the hearts of the audience and was a huge commercial success. Playing the role of Vikram Batra, the war hero who was martyred in the Kargil War, his performance was praised by the critics and public at large. The ever charming, sometimes funny, sometimes serious Malhotra was also nominated as Best Actor for the film at the 67th Filmfare Awards. Moreover, his two sensational songs ‘Raataan Lambiyan’ and ‘Ranjha’ peaked at the Billboard Top 100.
He has given us back-to-back swoon-worthy performances over the years. He has also shown range by playing characters with contrasting shades in films like Hasee Toh Phasee and Ek Villain. Malhotra manages to woo us with his charming yet straightforward character in Hasee Toh Phasee, opposite Parineeti Chopra. Their eccentric love story leaves the audience wanting more, and the songs of the movie are still on our playlist. Meanwhile, in Ek Villain, he plays an angry young man madly in love with Aisha (Shraddha Kapoor), who changes his world completely. However, their romance becomes an ill-fated one due to the psychotic serial killer Rakesh (Ritesh Deshmukh). The Ek Villain song ‘Galliyan’ became one of the most hummed songs of 2014 and it still lives in our heads rent free even now.

Talking about the project, Malhotra said, “I’m quite excited about Mission Majnu since it will be my first time playing a spy.
