Shraddha Walker Killing: Aftab Poonawala Pleads Not Guilty And Charged With Murder

In Novermber 2022, Shraddha Walker’s murder case horrified Delhi-NCR residents. Her live-in partner, Aaftab Poonawaala, reportedly cut her body into 35 pieces, kept the parts in a refrigerator and later dumped them into a nearby forest.

Walker was living with Poonawaala in a rented home in Chattarpur. The 28-year-old culprit was arrested and has pleaded not guilty. The trial has charged him with murder (Section 302) and destruction of evidence (Section 201) charges. A Delhi Court on May 9, 2023, framed the charges against the accused.

Delhi Murder Case

The accused and the deceased met on a dating website. They were in a relationship since 2019 and moved to New Delhi in 2022. According to PTI, they were initially living in Maharashtra.

The couple used to travel together around the country and had been to a hill station in Himachal Pradesh in March 2022. According to reports, Walker was strangled to death on May 18 in New Delhi, a few days after she rented it with her partner. They were quarrelling about something, and Poonawaala lost his temper.

Police has found that the murder was conspired. Walker’s father said he did not think it happened in a fit of rage. He allegedly chopped the body into 35 pieces, and headed out around 2 AM on different nights to dispose of them at different spots in the jungle. Reports say that the murder weapon has also been found in the forest.

Shraddha Walker’s Life Was Hell With Aaftab Poonawaala

On November 15, the police, Poonawaala, and Walker’s father went to search for her body parts in the Chhatarpur jungle. It took them about three hours to search the location for all the body parts.

According to many reports, the police have found 10 samples of the remains that are suspected to be of a human being. They have been sent for forensic examination for further investigation.

Police had also approached Walker’s friends to question them about her life with her live-in partner. They revealed that she wanted to leave Poonawaala because he had made her life like hell.

One friend shared that the couple was initially happy together. However, Poonawaala started beating her. He was quoted by ANI saying, “I was shaken to the core of my soul that my friend has been murdered. She told us in 2019 that she has been in a relationship since 2018.”

He added that Walker wanted to leave Poonawaala but could not do so.

Shraddha Walker Reached Out To Her Father For Help

News18 reported that one of their common friends had reported the gruesome murder to Walker’s father, who suspected his daughter to have been missing since September 2022.

He was quoted saying, “Once she contacted me on WhatsApp and asked to rescue her from her residence. She said that if she stayed with him (Aaftab) that night, he would kill her.”

After investigation, the police came to know that Poonawaala used to wrap the body parts in a black foil, but would dispose of them without cover to avoid suspicion. He searched on Google to find out how to clean blood stains with chemicals and get rid of soiled clothes.

The matter only came to light when Walker’s father lodged a missing complaint. Her friends informed him that they had not been in contact with her for the past two and a half months, and her mobile number was also switched off. Walker’s family did not find any updates for the time period on her social media accounts. Police traced the whereabouts of Poonawaala and arrested him.

Sources also confirmed that Poonawaala had relations with many girls before Walker. Before he murdered his live-in partner, he started watching many crime web shows and movies, including the most famous American crime thriller series, Dexter.
