Shabana Azmi Gets Injured In Road Accident While Heading To Khandala

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi met with a serious accident this evening while travelling to Khandala with husband Javed Akhtar. The car accident took place on the Mumbai - Pune highway near Khalapur toll plaza. While they were driving on the expressway, the car was hit by a truck.

While Shabana Azmi got minor injuries, Javed Akhtar, who was also present in the car was l not injured. The actress was immediately rushed to MGM hospital and later taken to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.

Officials at MGM Hospital spoke to the media. They said, , "Shabana Azmi has got minor injuries on her nose. No other visible injuries till now. She is right now in state of shock. Treatment going on. Condition stable."

Shabana Azmi's spokesperson told media, “She is fine, nothing to worry about."

Director Hansal Mehta took to his Twitter handle post the news broke and urged the authorities to monitor rash driving at the expressway. He wrote, "The Mumbai-Pune expressway has always been dangerous and there is little or no monitoring to prevent rash driving. I have seen so many terrible accidents there. Hope #ShabanaAzmi is fine. Dear @OfficeofUT please improve safety on this route urgently. It is quite a death trap."

Reportedly, Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar had planned for a short vacation in Khandala.

Shabana Azmi and family were celebrating Javed Akhtar's 75th birthday yesterday night in Mumbai. It was a star-studded night. Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif, Swara Bhasker, Deepika Padukone were in attendance among others.

Some friends and family members went to meet her including Tabu, Anil Kapoor and Zoya. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted out of concern.

Celina Jaitley as well shared her her concern and posted: "Shocked to hear about  @AzmiShabana ji’s accident. Shabana ji,You are a strong, determined person,I know that this accident will not get you down I hope you heal quickly & get back to us as quickly as possible Love n hugs from Austria OmManiPadmeHum @Javedakhtarjadu".
