Road Safety is a critical issue today with 1.5 lakh fatalities annually, making it an urgent national priority. For a woman, safe driving is not just about being a good driver but awareness of car technology is equally important. Whether you are an alone commuter to work, a new driver, or looking forward to buying a car for yourself or your family, knowing the safety features fitted in your car is important. Gajendra Jangid, Co-Founder of CARS24, Gurgaon, shared safety features for female drivers.
6 Must-Know Car Safety Features For Woman Drivers
Here are the car safety features for every woman driver:
Antilock Braking System (ABS)
Gajendra highlighted that ABS is one of the most essential features in modern cars, yet many people don’t fully understand how it works. The traditional brakes would lock the wheels when you hit them hard in an emergency, causing skidding. ABS prevents this by pulsing the brakes rapidly, allowing you to maintain steering control even while braking hard. This is an important feature in slippery conditions—wet roads, loose gravel, or sudden stops in traffic. For women driving solo at night or in unpredictable weather, ABS can be the difference between a scare and a serious accident.
Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
According to Gajendra, for women driving long distances on haunted and quiet roads, ESC is your saviour, for it thinks a step ahead of you. If your car starts to skid or loses control at sharp curves or on difficult terrains, ESC detects the problem and immediately adjusts engine power, applying brakes to individual wheels. This quickness makes the car stable. It reduces the risk of spinouts and rollovers and is especially useful on highways or curvy roads.
ISOFIX Mounts For Child Safety Seats
For a parent or guardian, ISOFIX is non-negotiable, highlighted Gajendra. ISOFIX is an international standardised car seat fixation system that provides a secure way to install child seats. Unlike belt-fixed installations by adults that may fail because of human error, ISOFIX locks the seat down to dedicated mount points in the car, resulting in a complete inability for movement, leaving seats unmovable during sudden stops. At the time of an accident, this is an added advantage.
Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
Gajendra mentioned that we tend to forget about the tyre until something bad happens. The TPMS feature is a lifesaver as it flags issues early, preventing an unfortunate incident. TPMS alerts in case one or more car tyres deflate, thus avoiding a dangerous blowout or poor handling. The concern with deflated tyres is that they reduce grip and increase braking effort, especially in wet road conditions.

Hill Start Assist
Stopping on an incline and then moving forward without rolling back can frighten you if you are in the middle of the road. According to Gajendra, Hill Start Assist holds the brake for a few seconds after you take your foot off the pedal, allowing a transition to the accelerator. It prevents a rollback and gives you control over the vehicle without panic. This is beneficial for inexperienced drivers or anyone driving on hilly routes regularly.
Emergency Call (eCall) and SOS Buttons
Gajendra highlighted that some newer vehicles are equipped with emergency response features like eCall, which automatically contactsemergency services if the car detects a serious crash. Others include an SOS button that you can manually press to get help. Situations where calling for help may not be possible—such as being unconscious or in an unsafe location—this technology bridges the gap. For women driving late at night or across isolated routes, this feature is more than just a bonus—it’s a lifeline.
