Hugh Jackman, the Emmy award-winning Australian actor, is all set to return as Wolverine aka Logan aka James Howlett, the fictional character from 20th Century Fox's X-Men film series and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) franchise. Wolverine will feature in the upcoming Ryan Reynolds starrer Marvel film Deadpool 3, set to release on June 9, 2024.

Reynolds took to social media today morning, September 28, 2022, to announce the third franchise of Deadpool and its release date. He said, “Hey everyone, we’re extremely sad to have missed D23, but we’ve been working very hard on the next Deadpool film for a good long while now,” Reynolds says in the video, referencing Disney’s D23 Expo in early September. “I’ve had to really search my soul on this one. His first appearance in the MCU obviously needs to feel special. We need to stay true to the character and find new depth, motivation, meaning. Every ‘Deadpool’ needs to stand out and stand apart. It’s been an incredible challenge that has forced me to reach down deep inside. And I…I have nothing. Yeah, just completely empty up here. And terrifying. But we did have one idea.”

Right before the video ends, Reynolds asks Jackman, “Hey, Hugh, you want to play Wolverine one more time?” as the latter walks by in the background. “Yeah, sure, Ryan,” Jackman replies. The video ends with Whitney Houston’s song I Will Always Love You and “Coming Hughn” written on the screen. Then the Deadpool logo appears sliced up by Wolverine’s adamantium claws.

The last time Jackman appeared as Wolverine was back in 2016’s R-rated Logan, directed by James Mangold. The film left its fans disheartened with Wolverine’s death at the end and Jackman had time and again stated that the film was his swan song in the role. Though it is still unknown how he’ll appear in the upcoming film, Wolverine is always popular for repeatedly breaking the fourth wall on film as well as in the comics. “Anything’s possible in the multiverse,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently told Variety.

Later the same day, Reynolds shared another video, this time along with Jackman sitting beside him. In this video, they explain how Logan is alive after his death in the last filmLogan.According to them,Loganis set in 2029 and he is dead in that film. "We are not touching that," they said. And they explain the rest of it in a typical Reynolds-Jackman way. Watch the video to find out what went down.

Shawn Levy (The Adam Project) is directing Deadpool 3, which will officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Disney’s purchase of 20th Century Fox. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writers of the first two Deadpool films will pen the third installment as well.

Prior to this, Reynold first appeared as Deadpool in 2009’s widely panned X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the first X-Men spinoff to focus on the character Wolverine. However, that version of Deadpool had his “mouth sewn shut” and did not feature his iconic red-and-black costume.
