An Indian YouTuber has claimed that his Russian wife was harassed while they were filming a travel vlog in Udaipur, Rajasthan. The incident, which he recorded on video and shared online, has sparked public outrage and demands for police action. Mithilesh filmed the moment when his wife was subjected to inappropriate remarks such as ‘6,000 INR?’ while she was at the City Palace in Udaipur.
Russian Woman Harassed In Udaipur
Popular YouTuber Mithilesh Backpacker, with over a million subscribers, was filming moments with his family at the City Palace in Udaipur when an unsettling incident took place. According to Mithilesh, a group of three to four men followed and mocked them, and one man made a sexually inappropriate comment towards his wife, Lisa. Mithilesh recorded the moment when his wife was harassed with remarks such as "6,000 INR?" at the City Palace.
The vlogger lost his temper and confronted the catcaller immediately. In the video shared on his YouTube channel, Mithilesh can be seen threatening to call the police, while the accused initially denied making any improper comments.
Mithilesh claimed that despite several bystanders witnessing the incident, no one stepped in to support him. He further accused the City Palace security of urging him to let the matter go after the accused offered what seemed like a half-hearted apology. "I had my two-year-old son with me, and I didn’t want to escalate things by fighting, so I asked for security," he explained in the video.
Uploaded on January 3, 2025, the video of the confrontation has gone viral, triggering widespread outrage among social media users, who voiced concerns about the safety of foreign tourists in India.
Mithilesh, who had travelled to Udaipur after visiting places like Lakshadweep, Andaman, Delhi, Mumbai, and Goa, expressed his hope that the authorities would take stringent action to prevent similar incidents. In his video, he stated, "I’m promoting Indian tourism, showing how beautiful and safe the country is, but incidents like this are disappointing."
Previous Incidents of Harassment Against Foreign Women in India
This is not the first instance of foreign women being harassed in India. In 2022, two men were arrested for harassing a South Korean woman in Mumbai while she was live-streaming. In a video shared by the woman herself, one of the accused is seen dragging the YouTuber by her hand as she shouts "no, no.” The footage shows the man getting close to her and holding her hand despite her protests.

As the woman attempts to walk away, the man reappears with another individual on a bike and offers her a lift. The woman refuses, telling them in broken English that her house is nearby.
Retweeting the video, the woman explained that she tried to avoid escalating the situation as the accused was accompanied by another person.
Additionally, in 2024, a Spanish woman was gang-raped in Dumka district of Jharkhand while travelling from West Bengal to Nepal.
