The Kapoor family issued an official statement,“Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8:45am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukemia. The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last. He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents. Family, friends, food and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him.”
"He was grateful for the love of his fans that poured in from the world over. In his passing, they would all understand that he would like to be remembered with a smile and not with tears. In this hour of personal loss, we also recognise the world is going through a very difficult and troubled time. There are numerous restrictions around movement and gathering in public. We would like to request all his fans and well-wishers and friends of the family to please respect the laws that are in force. He would not have it any other way."

Rishi Kapoor was diagnosed with cancer in the year 2018. He went to New York for his treatment. His wife Neetu Singh was his constant companion as he got treated. Talking about Rishi Kapoor's battle, wife Neetu in an interview said,“My first reaction was, obviously very bad, I was devastated, my kids were devastated. We didn’t know what to do. But then we thought to ourselves that this is it, we have to deal with it. Where he (Rishi) is concerned, he was in denial. For 4-5 months, he was not himself. I think when you start accepting that this is your issue, then you are stronger. I feel he is much stronger for the past, maybe 5-6 months.”
Rishi Kapoor was on the road to recovery and Neetu Singh also shared a couple of his videos on social media, doing virtual Yoga during the lockdown period.
Talking about fighting cancer, Rishi Kapoor in an interview said, “The thing is, people think and we dramatise in films, that cancer is a dreaded disease. Yes, it is. But today, it is all treatable, if diagnosed at an early stage, it can be dealt with. Cancer is curable and also, you have to have family support. Filmon me humne background music daal, dool ke itna kharab kiya hai naam cancer ka (We have given a bad name to cancer with all the background music that we used in films)! Today it its treatable, people are dealing with all kinds of cancer …just have to be positive.”
Rishi Kapoor was one of the most loved actors in the country. Through his journey in the film industry, he gave us many hit films like Prem Rog, Bobby, Agneepath, Karz, Amar Akbar Anthony among others.
He was one actor who redefined the world of Indian Cinema with his work. His sudden demise has shocked us all but he will always be remembered. Our heartiest condolences to the family.
