Actor Richa Chadha issued a statement on November 24 apologising for the recent controversy that was stirred by her tweet. The actor has been facing backlash since her comment on a top army commander’s statement on taking over Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
“Even though it can never be my intention in the least, if the 3 words which are being dragged into a controversy have offended or hurt anyone, I apologise and also say that it would sadden me if even unintentionally my words have triggered this feeling in my brothers in the fauj (army) of which my own Nanaji has been an illustrious part,” wrote Chadha in her apology.

In a tweet, an user with the profile name Baba Banaras quoted the Commanding-in-Chief of Northern Command Indian Army and wrote, “We r fully prepared to take back PoK from Pakistan. We r waiting the orders from the govt. We will complete the operation quickly. Before that if Pakistan is violating ceasefire, the answer will be different, even they can not imagine.”
Sharing the tweet, Chadha wrote, “Galwan says hi” while referring to the 2020 Galwan clash with Chinese troops. The tweet has now been deleted.
This went viral and many began calling it “shameful and disgraceful”.
She further mentioned in her apology statement that her grandfather was a Lieutenant Colonel and that he took a bullet in the leg during the Indo-China war. She also wrote that her uncle was a paratrooper and “it's in her blood.”
“My Mamaji was a paratrooper. It's in my blood. A whole family is affected when a son is martyred or even injured while saving the nation which is made up of people like us and I personally know how it feels. It is an emotive issue for me,” wrote Chadha in the statement.

Following her tweet, the Bharatiya Janata Party spokesperson Nalin Kohli called out the actor in a video statement. “India and Indians respect the Army and the armed forces. When our chief of the army says something we respect that. It is unfortunate that someone from posting something on social media decides to mock the army
Is it correct? Do we even understand the valour that was displayed in Galwan by the soldiers who gave up their life fighting for their motherland? It's unfortunate and condemnable to come out with this kind of post.”
“Disgraceful Tweet. Should be withdrawn at the earliest. Insulting our armed forces is not justified," said Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
Here's hoping Chadha's apology puts things to rest.
