Ramadan 2026 Fasting Rules: The auspicious month of Ramadan is going to begin soon, and muslims around the world are getting ready for this auspicious time. Ramadan is celebrated in the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. During this holy time, devotees observe a strict fast which starts from dawn until dusk. This holy festival starts when the Islamic month of Shaban ends, and the new moon of Ramadan is sighted. The month of Ramadan will conclude with people celebrating Eid al-Fitr, and with that, we will enter the next month of Shawwal. Ramadan 2026 Fasting Rules: Dos And Don'ts

This holy festival is celebrated according to the Islamic Lunar calendar. Unlike the Gregorian calendar, which is based on the sun’s movement, the Islamic Calendar is based on the lunar cycle and has 12 months with 29 or 30 days. With the 29th day of Shaaban, the auspicious festival of Ramadan officially begins.

Ramadan 2026 Dos For Fasting 

  1. One should fast with sincerity and observe the fast for spiritual purification and self-discipline.
  2. Devotees should be mindful of their prayers and engage in extra Taraweeh and during their Roza fast. 
  3. Maintain patience and good behaviour: Avoid arguments, gossip, and negative thoughts. It is suggested that one should keep their thoughts and feelings clear of negativity during this time.
  4. Wake up for Suhoor: As it's Sunnah, and one should eat a pre-dawn meal as it helps sustain energy throughout the day.
  5. Stay hydrated: One should drink plenty of water between Iftar and Suhoor to prevent dehydration. During fasts, water plays an important role in maintaining your energy and strength.
  6. Eat balanced meals: As there will be a big gap between meals, it is suggested that one should include complex carbs, proteins, healthy fats, and fibre to maintain energy.
  7. Consume hydrating foods like Cucumbers, watermelon, yoghurt, and soups help prevent dehydration.
  8. Break the fast gently: While you may be tempted to go for heavier meals after breaking the fast, it is suggested to start with dates, fruit, or a light soup before giving your body some time to get adjusted. 
  9. Practice portion control: Overeating at Iftar can be difficult to avoid, which can cause bloating and sluggishness, hence one should avoid such practice.

Ramadan 2026 Don’ts For Fasting 

  1. Skipping Suhoor: Skipping this can lead to fatigue and hunger pangs during the day.
  2. Wasting food: Since a big meal is anticipated, it is easy to prepare a lot of food for Iftar. However, it is suggested that one should prepare meals mindfully and avoid excessive leftovers.
  3. Neglecting prayers: Despite a lot of focus being on fasting, Ramadan is also about spiritual growth; it is important to perform prayers on time.
  4. Being lazy during the day: While fasting can make you tired and lethargic, it is suggested to stay productive while managing energy levels wisely.
  5. Unhealthy Food habits: While you may crave it, avoid eating junk and anything mindlessly after iftar.
  6. Consuming too much fried or sugary food: Such foods increase thirst, sluggishness, and digestive issues. 
  7. Drinking caffeinated drinks (tea, coffee, soda) excessively: As fasting causes fatigue and the feeling of lethargy, many people resort to consuming caffeine to maintain their energy. However, such beverages can lead to dehydration.
  8. Eating too fast at Iftar: While you may be experiencing extreme hunger, this practice can cause indigestion and discomfort.
