The Hyderabad rape case has shaken the entire nation to the core. Amidst the nation raging over the horrifying rape case, President Ram Nath Kovind has called for an amendment to the constitution for no provision of mercy pleas.
While addressing the National Conference on 'Empowerment of Women for Social Transformation' at the Brahma Kumaris' headquarters in Rajasthan's Mount Abu this Friday, President Ram Nath Kovind said, "I recommended that there should be an amendment to the Constitution with regards to mercy petition. In my opinion, people convicted under the POCSO Act should not be allowed to come under the ambit of mercy petition."
The President got emotional while addressing the event and said, "There should be no mercy for rapists. This kind of incident shocked the whole nation." "I am sure you share my sentiments but the final decision on this constitutional amendment lies with the Parliament," he added.

The Union Government has forwarded the President Delhi Government's recommendation of rejecting the mercy plea of one of the four convicts in the Nirbhaya 2012 gang-rape case. Nirbhaya's parents also sent an application to the president for rejecting the mercy pleas of the convicts.
6 were accused in the Nirbhaya rape case. While one was minor, one committed suicide in Tihar Jail. In the year 2013, trial court gave death sentence to the four convicts. CM Arvind Kejriwal called for a rejection of the mercy petition. In an interview, he said, "I think strict action should be taken in such cases, so that people think 10 times before doing something like this. This is why the Delhi government recommended that the President should not show any leniency in this case."

But our judiciary is broken
New or strict laws won't be effective unless we change our judiciary
No more court to court +bails+lengthy process+mercy pleas
[Even if govt reforms judiciary supreme court reverse that, like they did last year with ⬆️ in judges]
The entire nation is in pain in the wake of the brutal gang-rape of the 27-year-old veterinarian in Telangana. The 4 suspects of the crime were shot yesterday in an encounter by Hyderabad police after they tried to snatch guns and flee.
President Ram Nath Kovind went on to share that women's safety is a very serious issue. While a lot has been done to maintain it, much still needs to be done.
