Operation Sindoor: Just after midnight, while most people in India were asleep, the Indian armed forces carried out one of the biggest strikes in recent years. In a bold and secret mission called Operation Sindoor, they hit nine terror camps in Pakistan.
The attack surprised Pakistan, as the Army, Navy, and Air Force worked together to launch precise missile strikes in the dark. This strong response came after the deadly Pahalgam attack, where 26 tourists lost their lives.
Here’s a closer look at the operation and the nine terror sites that were targeted.
Operation Sindoor Explained
The first hint that India had carried out military strikes in Pakistan came from the Indian Army’s five-word post on X where they wrote, “Justice is served. Jai Hind!” At the same time, the Army shared a video of combat drills with the caption: “Ready to strike, trained to win.”

Soon after, the Indian government released a short statement, clarifying that no Pakistani military sites were targeted. “Our actions were precise, limited, and meant to avoid escalation,” the statement said. It also emphasised that India had shown great care in choosing its targets and how the operation was carried out.
For the airstrikes, India used Rafale fighter jets equipped with SCALP cruise missiles, which are designed for long-range attacks, along with Hammer bombs—high-precision air-to-ground weapons.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has been holding several high-level meetings since the Pahalgam tragedy, closely monitored Operation Sindoor throughout the night. He had earlier vowed that every terrorist and those supporting them would be identified and punished.

In retaliation, the Pakistani army opened fire along the Line of Control in the Poonch-Rajouri sector, killing three civilians. This marks the 13th straight day of ceasefire violations by Pakistan.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the strikes, calling them an “act of war” and warning of a strong response. Pakistan claimed the Indian attack killed eight people and injured 33, including women and children.
Flight services were suspended at major northern airports, including those in Dharamshala, Leh, Jammu, Srinagar, and Amritsar. Civilian flights from Srinagar will also remain suspended today. Schools and colleges in some parts of Kashmir have been shut as a precaution.
Following the strikes, India briefed key global powers, including the US, Russia, the UK, and Saudi Arabia. Reacting to the developments, U.S. President Donald Trump called the incident ‘a shame’ and said he had anticipated that something was about to happen.
