Who Is Nidhi Tewari?
Nidhi Tewari is a 2014-batch Indian Foreign Service officer from Mehmoorganj located in Varanasi. She secured the 96th rank in the 2013 Civil Services Examination. She worked as an Assistant Commissioner in Varanasi before joining the Indian Foreign Service. Earlier she was working as the Under Secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division. She previously worked in the Prime Minister's Office as the Deputy Secretary from 2022.
According to the memorandum issued by the Department of Personnel and Training on March 29, 2025, Nidhi Tewari was appointed as Private Secretary to PM Modi. The appointments committee of the cabinet has approved the appointment with immediate effect. The ACC order issued states, "The ACC has approved the appointment of Nidhi Tewari, IFS 2014, currently serving as deputy secretary in the Prime Minister's Office, as private secretary to the PM in Level 12 of the pay matrix with immediate effect on a co-terminus basis or until further orders, whichever is earlier."
What Is Nidhi Tewari’s Salary?
Nidhi Tewari's current position as Deputy Secretary in the PMO is positioned at Level 12 of the pay matrix. As the Private Secretary to the Prime Minister, Tewari will receive a salary based on Pay Matrix Level-14, which is Rs 1,44,200 per month. Apart from the salary, she will get additional benefits like dearness allowance, travel allowance, house allowance, bringing her total monthly salary to around Rs 2 Lakh.

Nidhi Tewari’s Role
Nidhi has been working in the Prime Minister’s Office since 2022 as an Under Secretary. She was promoted to deputy Secretary on January 6, 2023. She plays the role in the ‘Foreign and Security’ division and reports directly to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
Nidhi Tewari’s Connection With Varanasi
Nidhi Tewari was previously associated with PM Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency in Varanasi since 2014. Additionally, her hometown is Mahmoorganj, Varanasi, an important part of this parliamentary seat.
