With the Nothing Phone (3) now officially launched, users are already looking forward to the next big software update. That comes in the form of Nothing OS 4.0, based on Android 16. While the device currently ships with Nothing OS 3.5 (based on Android 15), the brand has dropped a clear teaser about when the next major update is expected. Here's everything we know so far about the Nothing OS 4.0 Android 16 Update.
Nothing OS 4.0 will be the company’s customised version of Android 16, the latest version of Google’s operating system, which has already rolled out to Pixel devices. Nothing’s upcoming software version aims to bring not only Android’s core upgrades but also new features and refinements from Nothing’s design-first UI approach.

Carl Pei, CEO and Founder of Nothing, confirmed during the Phone (3) launch event that Nothing OS 4.0 is actively in development and will roll out later this autumn. This lines up with the typical Android update cycle and Google’s release timeline.
While an exact date hasn’t been shared yet, Carl Pei revealed that Nothing OS 4.0 will begin rolling out sometime between September and November 2025. If Nothing follows its previous release patterns, the update may first roll out as a public beta, followed by a wider stable release a few weeks later.
The Nothing Phone (3) will be the first device to receive the update, being called the brand’s “first true flagship.” Older devices like the Phone (2a) and Phone (2) are expected to follow shortly after.
