This is a man's world, this is a man's world, but it wouldn't be nothing, nothing without a woman or a girl. This 60s song said it right but decades later only the first line of the lyrics still holds true as we can see that despite women evolving to take over every role in every arena, the technologies, the customs, and the systems are still geared to cater to the men. Men are still seen as the ones who get the job done. Men are still the ones who get paid more than women even if the woman is doing a better job. Men are still preferred for certain jobs and there are still many areas that don’t have provisions made for women. It’s as if we don’t exist. And the excuse? Well, it would be too costly, too cumbersome and such a waste to bring certain facilities at par just so women could also enjoy them.
Here’s a look at some of the other ways in which women are still living in a man’s world:
Sir, Here’s The Cheque...
Ever noticed that at the end of the meal at a restaurant, no matter who calls for the bill, the waiter almost always comes with the billing machine only to turn to the man sitting at the table? Why is it still expected that the man will pay while the woman will eat or shop or just sit around to be pampered? There have been times that I’ve had to almost snatch away the bill, only to view an astonished look on the waiter’s face. Also, it does not help that women earn 20% less than men in India (Monster Salary Index, 2018).
No Suits For Women
With NASA’s cancellation of a spacewalk that was supposed to be done by an all-female crew, an interesting fact came to light. The premier space organisation that prides itself on being at the forefront of so many advanced technologies did not have spacesuits in the right size for women. A sad fact considering this could have been an all-female spacewalk in the history of the organisation. Christina Koch and Anne McClain were slated to be part of the spacewalk outside the international space station (ISS) for the installation of new batteries. Now McClain eventually conducted the spacewalk along with fellow astronaut Nick Hague.
I'm suuper disappointed about the all-woman spacewalk not happening as scheduled this Friday but I'm also super supportive of astronauts having the authority to say "I would be safer using a different piece of equipment." An all-woman spacewalk WILL eventually happen. https://t.co/LRob2RHvxq

Indian Army Combat Roles For Women
Females in the Indian Army cannot be in combat roles even if they want to. Why? Because a man says so. Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has cited weird reasons why women are considered for combat roles in the army. Firstly, they are not prepared for the hardships, secondly, male personnel that comes from rural areas may have issues mingling with women in such roles and thirdly, the women jawans may accuse the men of peeping whenever they change clothes! Are we living in the 21st Century or what? Doesn’t seem so. So the entire responsibility of fighting for the country continues to lie with men.
Turn Up The Temperature For The Ladies Please?
Ever noticed how every other office has all the women complaining about the excruciatingly cold AC temperatures even as the men keep saying that it’s alright? Well, we are not complaining just for the sake of it. It’s not a tantrum for us to throw. We don’t like carrying sweaters during summer only to escape the bitter cold at the office. According to a study, it has been found out that women feel cold easily as their metabolic rate and body heat production is different than men. In fact, women will be comfortable sitting in a place with a temperature set around 24-25 degrees Celsius. So while we are expected to be team players, the office space with its mesh chairs and barstool-height chairs actually add to our woes and no one is doing anything about it.

Do Women Get Heart Attacks?
Caroline Criado Perez, a journalist and the author behind the book Invisible Women: Exposing Data Bias in a World Designed for Men, dug deep into the problem of gender bias and here’s what she found out. Medical data on heart attacks was based on the symptoms of men which meant that doctors were more likely to miss out when women were becoming susceptible to heart conditions.

Smartphones Are Biased Too!
Bigger smartphones are totally not designed for the petite hands of women which means they get dropped easily and we get blamed for being too clumsy! What’s more, Apple’s Siri had a glitch due to which it was sending abortion seekers to adoption centres. The problem was solved 5 years after it was raised. If that’s not a bias against women then what is?
