The 19-year-old Nandini Gupta was recently crowned Miss India 2023 in Lampak, Imphal. Shreya Poonja from Delhi and Thounaojam Srtela Luwang from Manipur were the first and second runner-ups respectively at the pageant. Nandini Gupta will next be representing India at the 71st edition of the Miss World pageant in the United Arab Emirates. Ahead of her Miss World preparations, we had a quick chat with her about her journey at the Miss India pageant, the evolution of the beauty pageant, and more. Read on.

“Miss India is a milestone that I always wanted to achieve in my life. And winning this is so surreal for me. This title means the world to me, a step ahead, closer to my dreams. and I hope I continue to receive the love and support from the people,” said Nandini Gupta on bagging the Miss India title.
On Overcoming Challenges
Nandini Gupta’s journey to winning the Miss India crown wasn't an easy one. Some challenges did come her way but she managed to overcome them all. Speaking of her challenges, she said, “My biggest challenge was to overcome my communication barrier, having English as my 3rd language was the most challenging part of it. Accepting all the failures and working hard for success, is how I made my barriers my skills and I will continue to polish them.”
She further shared that her parents, family and friends were her motivation, and to see their eyes shine with her success was her biggest motivation.

Evolution Of Beauty Pageants
There has been a lot of debate around beauty pageants for the longest time. Over the years, they have been called out for promoting vanity and not being inclusive. We asked Gupta to share her take. She said, “Beauty pageants are so much beyond that, you completely transform into a better version of yourself, and every day a new you takes hold. This pageant truly changed my life for good and I am so thankful for this opportunity. Beauty pageants have evolved through the years. When I entered the pageant the only thing that was instructed to us was to be ourselves and be true. Debates are never ending but on a good note pageants empower you.”
We concluded the interaction by asking Gupta what was next on her list. She said, “I am preparing for Miss World 2024. I am working on my ramp walk, communication, fitness and talent, I am polishing myself every day.”

Hailing from Kota, one of the country's biggest coaching hubs, Gupta is pursuing a Business Management degree. She completed her schooling from St. Paul's Senior Secondary School in Rajasthan.
