India is set to conduct mock drills on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, amid rising anticipation of military action following last month’s deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 civilian lives. These drills are part of a broader civil defence preparedness effort and will occur across 244 districts nationwide. Here's a closer look at what these mock drills involve and which areas will participate.

What Is Mock Drill On May 7, 2025?

The upcoming mock drills are designed to equip citizens with the knowledge and actions they should take in the event of an attack on India. According to a letter from the Directorate General of Fire Services, Civil Defense, and Home Guards, the exercises are also meant to 'evaluate and strengthen civil defense readiness' across all States and Union Territories. The letter highlights that, given today’s changing global situation and the rise of new and complex threats, it's crucial for states and UTs to stay fully prepared at all times.

Blackouts: Cities may be asked to turn off visible lights to simulate wartime blackout conditions—used to reduce visibility during aerial threats.

Camouflage Exercises: Strategic sites like communication towers, power plants, and military areas will undergo concealment tests to check how well they can avoid detection by satellite surveillance.
