A democratic nation like India is now seeing the ‘Maha Tyohaar’ of election where people are waiting with bated breath to see who wins. But what does the country's female voter want? Is she voting for basic necessities that her local area candidate will provide or is she aiming to vote for a party that will take the nation forward? As part of Her Zindagi's 'Mera Power Vote' series, we are profiling women voters to understand their thoughts, expectations, suggestions and understanding about voting. This time, we talked to Sucharita Sen, a news editor with a keen interest in politics and we got to know how she plans to use her power vote.
1. Will You Vote This Year?
Yes of course.
2. What Is Your Constituency And What Do You Know About The Candidates?
It is South Delhiseat for us. The current MP is Ramesh Bidhuri from BJP. Boxer Vijender Singh is the Congress candidate and AAP's Raghav Chadha is fighting from this seat too.
3. What Issue Is Your Vote Based On?
As a voter I am tired of false promises. I am tired of leaders slamming each other and washing dirty linen in public. A wave of change is a must. My vote this time will be based on who did what. Women security still remains an issue, freedom of speech and right to pray are bigger issues to deal with. Until we resolve this we cannot fight other global issues.
4. What Problems Of Your Area Do You Want To Draw An Attention To?
Security - An area’s security covers many aspects. Not only do we need to have security from thefts and lynching but also security for women. A larger number of women are mostly travelling late and it is important that they not only travel safe but reach home safe.
Bad roads - Despite being one of the most posh areas, bad roads seem to dent South Delhi's development forever now. Not to forget to forget the rains that make it worse every year.
5. What Are Your Expectations From The Government That Will Be Elected?
I expect the government to highlight on internal issues, lynching, security and take care of caste-based issues. Equality for all is a must. In today's time and age, we hear of Dalits being mistreated and Muslims being addressed as terrorists, and high caste people enjoying several privileges. Let us not show equality through reservation but through equal opportunities. Also let women be. No one ever said give women a ladies seat in the bus or a compartment in the metro as a privilege for the weaker sex. Just treat them as equal.

6. What Do You Have To Say To Women Who Do Not Vote?
This is a fundamental right. Exercise it to voice out your preference and you have the power to choose for a better tomorrow, don't let it go waste. Also it will help you to express what you think about who should be running the country.
