The first-ever fashion doll Barbie with Down's syndrome was released recently to make it easier for more kids to discover a toy that reflects them. To get the product on the market, they collaborated with the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) in the US.
As stated by Mattel, this range of dolls "offers a variety of skin tones, eye colours, hair colours and textures, body types, disabilities, and fashions, to inspire even more stories."
A person with Down syndrome has an additional chromosome or an extra pair of chromosomes. Physical and mental difficulties may result throughout their lives.

Barbie shared this good news in an Instagram post with the caption, “In partnership with @NDSSorg, the newest #Barbie fashion dolls were designed with purpose and inclusivity at the heart of every choice.
With a shorter frame, rounder face, smaller features, and palms including a single line, this doll introduces a new sculpt and details illustrative of common characteristics of women with Down syndrome.
Dressed in the colours and symbols of the community, she wears matching ankle foot orthotics, and a three-chevron necklace representing the three copies of the 21st chromosome that result in the characteristics associated with Down syndrome and represents “the lucky few” who have someone with Down syndrome in their life.”

Barbie from Mattel has already come under fire for setting unattainable beauty standards for the kids who play with the doll. The business has made an effort to break from this reputation in recent years by providing a wider variety of dolls. Barbie and Ken dolls with vitiligo, hearing aids, wheelchairs and prosthetic limbs were the first to be produced. The 2023 Fashionista collection, which features a doll with Down syndrome, was the "most diverse doll line" the company has ever produced.
