Mark Zuckerberg Teases Meta Smart Glasses, With Oakley On Board: Features, Launch Date & More

Meta is expanding its smart glasses lineup, this time with a new collaboration that brings Oakley into the mix. The sports eyewear giant is joining forces with Meta, as confirmed by a teaser shared on June 17, 2025, by Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth. The short clip features the logos of both brands, sparking excitement without revealing the actual product.

Meta & Oakley Smartglasses Launch Date

The official reveal is scheduled for June 20, 2025. Oakley confirmed the date through its Instagram page, writing, “The next evolution is coming on June 20.” A joint Instagram handle titled @oakleymeta also shared the teaser video. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg reposted it on his channel, while Instagram’s official page and Oakley’s account amplified the message.

Meta & Rayban Collaboration

Meta's journey with smart eyewear began in 2021 with the Ray-Ban Stories—glasses equipped with speakers and a camera, but no AR. In 2023, a second-generation version launched at $299, offering upgraded audio, a better camera, and an AI-powered assistant.

Oakley Smartglasses New Features

The Oakley partnership could mean one of two things: a new third-generation version or a sportier redesign of the existing model, catering to outdoor users and athletes. A January report by Bloomberg suggested the glasses may be based on Oakley’s Sphaera model. Unlike the Ray-Ban smart glasses, where the camera is on the edge, these could feature a centrally placed built-in camera, making them more suited for high-movement activities like cycling.

This isn’t Meta’s first time teaming up with eyewear brands under the same corporate umbrella. Oakley and Ray-Ban are both owned by EssilorLuxottica, the Italy-based eyewear conglomerate.

By partnering with Oakley, Meta enters the competitive sports technology market where established players like GoPro, Garmin, and specialised cycling computer manufacturers currently dominate.
