Mahavir Jayanti, celebrated on the 13th day of Chaitra month, i.e., the Trayodashi Tithi of Chaitra Shukla, according to the Hindu calendar, commemorates the birth of Lord Mahavir Swami, the 24th and last Tirthankara of Jainism. He was born on the thirteenth day of the rising moon in the month of Chaitra in 599 BC. The festival falls in the month of March or April as per the Gregorian calendar. The devotees of Jainism remember the life and teachings of Lord Mahavir on the festival of Mahavir Jayanti. There are five main principles of Jainism, truth, non-violence, non-possessiveness, celibacy, and non-stealing.
