The city of Puri is getting ready for a supreme display of devotional and traditional extravaganza when Lord Jagannath and His siblings, Devi Subhadra and Lord Balabhadra, return to Srimandir in the much-anticipated Bahuda Yatra on July 15. This grand "return journey," marking the culmination of a nine-day sojourn at Gundicha, absorbs devotees and cultural enthusiasts alike.
Lord Jagannath's Bahuda Yatra Date And Timing
These rituals begin at 4 am with Mangal Aarti and proceed further with holy ceremonies of Tadap Lagi, Rosa Homa, and Abakash. From 4 pm onwards, thousands pack in to join hands in pulling the magnificent chariots carrying deities back to Srimandir. Before this emotional journey, Gajapati Maharaja Dibyasingh Deb, the titular king of Puri, does the traditional 'Cheera pahanra', that is, symbolic sweeping of the chariots.
Officials estimate that some five lakh people will throng Puri to take part in and witness this wonderful spectacle.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made as the turnout is expected to be huge. As many as 180 platoons of the Odisha Police, comprising 30 personnel in each platoon, besides 1,000 officers, have been deployed. The force is being supported by three companies of RAF and two companies of CRPF. CCTV cameras have also been installed at various points of the city to monitor the celebration and manage the crowds that gather.

History of Bahuda Yatra
The Bahuda Yatra, or "return journey" in Odia, is soaked in centuries of rich tradition. Markedly, this festival is as old as the famous Rath Yatra itself and mirrors ample riches of the Odia culture. This journey aims at depicting the cycles of life, emphasising reunion and return.
One of the most memorable moments of the Bahuda Yatra is definitely at the Mausima Temple, also known as the Ardhasani Temple. Here, the deities are offered 'Poda Pitha', a special rice cake believed to be their favourite delicacy.

For the devotees, the Bahuda Yatra is not an ordinary journey. Rather, it is a great spiritual experience that rejuvenates their bond with divinity. The act of pulling the chariots has been interpreted as service to the deities, whereby the participants get closer to their gods.
