To help women from the weaker sections of the society, the Ministry of Women and Child Development of Haryana State Government introduced the Ladli Scheme in the year 2005. Later, the scheme was also launched in the national capital Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Maharashtra and Rajasthan. The key objective of the scheme was to promote the birth of girl child and improve the sex ratio across the said states.
When the scheme was initially introduced, the aim was to create awareness among people about girl children. The Ladli scheme gives a provision of ₹5,000 per year per family for a period of five years. This amount is saved under Kisan Vikas Patra in the name of the girl child's mother. This amount is collected each year and is available for withdrawal once the girl turns 18 years of age. In case of twin girls, the amount is provided in two instalments.
This monetary benefit is provided to the girl child irrespective of their caste, creed, religion, family income. (Post office schemes for girls)
