Yash, the Kannada actor popular as ‘Rocky Bhai’ from the K.G.F series, said he doesn’t believe in ‘woods’- Bollywood, Tollywood, Sandalwood or any other. He further said he wants to get rid of the boundaries of separate entertainment industries.

In the India Today Conclave in Mumbai on November 6, 2022, when Yash was asked what was his take on the statement: “seems like Bollywood needs Yash more than he needs Bollywood” after the success of K.G.F. To which he responded, “Let’s burn all woods.”

“I don’t believe in Bollywood, Sandalwood, I don’t believe in these ‘woods’ at all. Let’s burn the woods. The point here is, we fought for our respect, please treat us like every actor is treated in this country. Just because things are working for us, I can’t start doing the same thing for others.”

He further added, “If I start treating rest of the people as, ‘We have surpassed all your things and today South is going up and Bollywood is finishing,’ all the bullshit I don’t believe in. The point here is, let’s just do good work. The audience doesn’t care whether it is from Bollywood, Karnataka or any other state.”

While citing other Kannada films like Kantara, Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana, Charlie 777, Yash said, “They are all good Kannada films and they are doing so good in Karnataka as well as in other states. If you promote it well, with a reputed banner, good presentation, it will reach more people.”

According to Yash, he cannot let the massive success of K.G.F get to him and start considering himself to be “beyond Bollywood”. He firmly believes that he still has to prove himself every Friday.

“I am nobody, every Friday you have to prove yourself. Just because I have done K.G.F I can’t think that tomorrow I am the biggest star or I am beyond Bollywood–there is no ‘wood’ in the first place. So, if someone does better work or if someone does something good here, then definitely people will accept it all over the country and tables will turn,” he said.

The reason why audiences are being driven to cinema halls is that they are smart enough to identify and recognise the effort put in by the actor and the entire cast and crew behind the film. “The audience will come and watch the film irrespective of the scale,” he said.
