Kajol Shares Why Helicopter Parenting Is Important And How It Should Be Done Correctly

If you aren’t aware of the concept of helicopter parenting then let us tell you what does that mean. A helicopter parent is someone who pays a lot of attention to their child, their education, experiences, and problems among other things in their life. It is when the mother or the father is too involved in their child’s life and this takes away from the independence of their child. This further is said to cause discomfort to their child and lead to problems between the kid and the parent. But this is not necessarily the case with small kids. Helicopter parenting can be at any age, depending on the parent. Even at elder ages, a lot of parents like keeping a control over their children.

Recently, Bollywood actress Kajol was in the capital to promote her next movie "Helicopter Eela" with co-star Riddhi Sen. The movie is based on the concept of helicopter parenting and we asked Kajol if she feels it is a good way to parent their children. Here is what she said,

" I definitely think that as parents we need to be aware of what is happening in the world of our kids. It is very important to have that awareness. We need to keep a check on what our children are doing. Kids today want their parents to see them as an individual. Most children have this problem that children are not able to see them as individuals, as people who have their own opinions. Parents usually take their kids to be their son or daughter and forget that he or she has their own identity. Your kids have their own view, own thinking about things in life. However, many times, parents don't take all this into consideration."

She added, "There are times when my children fight with me saying that why didn't you ask me about it. A lot of times I also forget to ask them what do they want. This is why I say that it is very important to keep a channel of conversation active between you and your child. Today the world has changed completely and the flow of information is such that you can't stop it. You can't predict what kind of information your child is getting. As parents, it is important to have a conversation with your children so that if they have any question about anything then they will come to you for an answer."

"My son once thought that a word is a bad word but he said it's there in the dictionary. So he was like if it is there in the dictionary, how can it be bad. But I am glad he came to me to ask the meaning. I told him that it is important to know where the word is used and how it is used. There are a lot of topics where it gets a little difficult to talk to with your children but it's important to have a conversation with them and it is our biggest responsibility. We need to disseminate the information that our child is getting and them tell them if it is right for them as per their age and if not then when they will use them ahead in life. They should be happy they have some information but as parents, you should tell them that when that information has to be used."
