At the young age of sixteen, Kaamya Karthikeyan has now become the youngest Indian and the second youngest girl worldwide to climb Mt.Everest. She was accompanied by her father, Commander S Karthikeyan of the Indian Navy, as the dynamic father-daughter duo climbed the 8849 metres of Mt.Everest on May 20, 2024.

Indian Navy took to X to congratulate the young sixteen-year-old and her navy officer father, Commander S Karthikeyan on their incredible milestone. The Indian Navy wrote on X, “ Ms Kaamya Karthikeyan, a 16-year-old, class XII student of Navy Children School, Mumbai and her father Cdr S Karthikeyan of the #IndianNavy successfully summitted Mt. Everest (8849 M) on 20 May 24.”

They continued the thread with several pictures of the father-daughter duo and wrote, “After this feat, she has become the second youngest girl in the world and the youngest Indian Mountaineer to summit the world's highest peak from the Nepal side.”
However, this is not her only achievement, continuing the X thread, Indian Navy wrote about her several other ventures writing, “Ms. Kaamya has now completed six milestones in her mission to summit the highest peak of all seven continents and aims to summit Mt. Vinson Massif in Antarctica this December to become the youngest girl to accomplish the 7summits challenge.”
Kaamya Karthikeyan The Youngest Indian To Climb Mt.Everest
According to reports, Kaamya Karthikeyan was inspired by her father’s mountaineering ventures. As per Kids Chaupal, the young climber started mountaineering at the young age of three and ventured towards the Himalayas in 2015 with a trek to Chandrashila Peak at the age of seven.
Kaamya has also ventured into other rigorous treks such as Har-ki Dun, Kedarkantha Peak, and Roopkund Lake in 2016. She also vanquished the Brighu Lake and crossed the Sar Pass in Himachal Pradesh in 2019. Her journey to the top (quite literally) stands as proof that age is merely a barrier that doesn’t stop you from achieving your wildest dreams.
