In a major digital safety alert, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has raised concerns for iPhone and iPad users nationwide. The cybersecurity agency has discovered multiple loopholes in Apple’s iOS and iPadOS software that could put user data at serious risk or even make devices inoperable. Below, we have more information on the warning that Apple users should know about.

iPhone And iPad Users at Risk of Data Breach

The Indian government has sounded an alarm for Apple device users, cautioning them about several serious flaws in the iOS and iPadOS platforms. These security gaps, if taken advantage of by hackers, could expose sensitive information or completely disable the devices. The alert was issued by CERT-In, which functions under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

As per the official advisory, a wide range of Apple devices are vulnerable, including newer and older models. This includes iPhones running versions older than iOS 18.3 and iPads operating on iPadOS versions before 17.7.3 or 18.3, depending on the model. Affected models include the iPhone XS and all newer versions, as well as the iPad Pro (2nd generation and later), iPad 6th generation and above, iPad Air from the 3rd generation onward, and iPad mini 5th generation and up.

These vulnerabilities are not just theoretical; CERT-In has confirmed that cybercriminals are already targeting them in real-time attacks. One particularly dangerous bug has been found in Apple’s Darwin notification system, which handles internal communications within the device. This flaw could allow any app, even those without special permissions to send critical system notifications. In worst-case scenarios, this could crash the device entirely, requiring a manual reboot.
