If you’ve noticed that your Instagram feed isn’t showing the content you’re into, it might be time to refresh the platform’s algorithm. Instagram customises your experience based on your interactions, but over time, it can fill up with content you’re not interested in. If you're tired of constantly hitting the 'not interested' button, there's some good news. Instagram is rolling out a feature that lets users reset their recommendations. By doing so, you’ll essentially start fresh, allowing the algorithm to learn and recommend content you enjoy on your Explore page, home feed, and Reels tab.
Instagram To Reset Instagram Algorithm Soon
Meta is testing a new feature that allows you to reset your Instagram algorithm, giving you a clean slate. In an Instagram post, Adam Mosseri explained that the company is experimenting with letting users clear out their recommendations across the Explore page, Reels, and feed for a 'fresh start.'
He mentioned, "It’s going to make your Instagram much less interesting at first, because we’ll treat you as if we know nothing about you and your interests, and it will take time to relearn those." While he doesn’t recommend resetting the algorithm frequently, Mosseri emphasised that this feature offers users an option if they're unhappy with their current experience.

On November 18, 2024, Meta shared a note detailing how it limits sensitive content for teens on Instagram. This summer, the platform introduced automatic privacy settings for teen accounts, making them private by default. Along with this change, Instagram implemented stricter controls and restrictions, offering increased protections to ensure that teens are shielded from harmful or sensitive content while using the app.

How To Reset Instagram Algorithm?
While we wait for Instagram's new feature to roll out, you can manually reset your algorithm with these simple steps:
1. Clearing Search History
The first step in resetting the algorithm is clearing your search history. Follow these steps:
- Go to your profile and tap the menu icon (three lines) at the top right.
- Select 'Your Activity' and then tap 'Recent Searches.'
- Press 'Clear All' to delete your search history.
- Remember, this action is permanent and can't be undone.

2. Adjusting Your Interests
- To influence what appears on your feed, be selective about your interactions.
- When you come across posts you're not interested in, tap the '...' (three dots) menu and select 'Not Interested.'
- Continue engaging more with content you enjoy, and less with what you don’t. Over time, the algorithm will adapt based on your preferences.
3. Refreshing Your Explore Page
To reset your Explore page and discover new content that matches your interests:
- Tap the search icon (magnifying glass) in the app.
- If available, tap 'See All' near the search box to refresh the content.
This will help repopulate your Explore page with suggestions that are more in line with your updated preferences.
