As anticipated many politicians, celebrities and famous personalities have lost the blue tick on Twitter. It stands for a verified account, which now would be a task to differentiate from fake and fan accounts.
Shah Rukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, CM Yogi Adityanath, Priyanka Gandhi, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rahul Gandhi, Amitabh Bachchan and many others have lost the blue tick that once helped viewers verify the source of information.
Earlier, when Elon Musk took over Twitter, he announced that blue ticks will be removed. Whoever would want the tick to verify their account would have to pay $8 per month on the website and $11 per month on the application (both in Android and iOS).
In March, the official Twitter account posted, “On April 1, we will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks. To keep your blue checkmark on Twitter, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue.”

Twitter blue tick was first introduced in 2009 to help users identify verified accounts of organisations, politicians, brands, companies, celebrities and others. There were no charges levied for it.
However, as Musk took over the social media platform, he wanted to monetise the blue tick. Hence, users were warned against paying every month for the verified checkmark or losing their privileges.

How To Get Verified Blue Tick On Twitter
The Twitter eligibility criteria for verification include,
- Complete: The account must have a display name and profile photo
- Active Use: The account must have been active in the past 30 days only then the individual can apply for Twittle Blue
- Security: The account must be older than 30 days before the individual apply for a subscription. It must have a verified phone number.
- Non-Deceptive: The account must not have made any changes in the profile photo, username and display name recently. It must not have any signs of being deceptive or misleading or engaging in spamming or platform manipulation.
The checkmark will automatically appear on the profile after a Twitter team has thoroughly verified all the information. Twitter also has the power to remove the checkmark of any account at any point in time without giving any notice. If the profile violates any rules, the Twitter blue tick will disappear.
If any account today has a blue tick, it means it has been verified and has an active subscription to Twitter Blue. It meets all the eligibility criteria.
